Lot 334

1797 S-136 R3 PCGS graded G4. Glossy chocolate brown and olive. The surfaces are smooth and free of marks, just worn. LDS, Breen state V, with areas of swelling on the reverse. This cent was struck twice and both impressions were reasonably well centered on the planchet. The planchet flipped over between strikes and ample undertype from the first impression remains visible on both sides. Most notably ICA and the fraction from the first strike are clearly visible in the field behind the portrait, and on the reverse you can see ERTY at ITED and the nose, lips, and chin of Ms Liberty at the O in ONE. An impressive example of this very rare type of mint error. Our grade is consistent with the PCGS grade. The Mint Error Flip-Over Double Strike in Collar feature is noted on the PCGS label. Estimate Value $200 - UP

Realized $940
