Lot 331

1797 S-125 R5 G6. Sharpness near VG10 but uniform very fine granularity covers the fields and protected areas on both sides. There is no verdigris, and the fine roughness is offset somewhat by the rather glossy chocolate brown toning. The only mark is a thin diagonal nick in the hair under the E in LIBERTY. MDS, Breen state II, with obvious swelling from the 97 through the bust into the field before the neck and chin. The second 7 is still readable in spite of the swelling, while the rest of the date and all the legends are complete and clear. Removed from an ANACS slab graded VG10 details, corroded (ANACS label #4638160 included). Estimate Value $400 - UP
Ex McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 9/4/2016:455 (lot ticket included).
