Lot 197

1835 C-2 R1 Repunched 5 PCGS graded MS64 Brown, CAC Approved. The obverse is lustrous uniform medium brown while the reverse is highly lustrous bluish steel and light olive with lighter brown at the top. Traces of faded mint red are visible on both sides and this piece offers excellent eye appeal. No spots or stains, just a few faint contact marks on the cheek and neck, none visible to the unaided eye. The reverse is superb. Sharply struck MDS, Manley state 2.0, with minor die clashmarks on both sides. The fields on the reverse are smooth and slightly reflective suggesting it was struck following a fresh die polishing. The repunching on the 5 is sharp (this is the same obverse die that was used on the 1835 C-1 variety but in an earlier die state). Our grade is MS62+. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; none finer for the variety. Estimate Value $800 - UP
Ex Ellesmere 12/23/2000-The Green Tree Collection.
