1857 N-2 R1+ Small Date PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous mint red fading to light olive brown and steel with 20% of the obverse and 70% of the reverse showing mint color. The only notable marks are a dull horizontal nick or planchet chip at the upper point of star 5 and a diagonal one over the E in CENT plus a tiny swipe of darker toning between the bases of the E & S in STATES. MDS die state a late. The die lines over UNIT are faint, nearly gone. A beautiful example of the Small Date version of 1857. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#6 in the Grellman census. The attribution and Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; none finer for the variety. PCGS #148731. Estimate Value $1,000 - UP
