1835 N-3 R3 Small Date PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Frosty bluish steel brown and light olive with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints of the devices. Traces of mint color remain visible on the obverse and about 10% of the original mint color shows on the reverse. No marks, spots, or stains, just a very light touch of rub on the highest points of the design. MDS with a minor crumbling in the dentils under the 35 in the date with a bit more even with the lower edge of star 2, but the reverse center dot is still visible. (In the latest die state, the crumbling at star 2 extends upward for a couple more dentils and the reverse center dot has faded away.) Softly struck on the brow lock and tip of the coronet with similar weakness in the leaves below ENT. Called AU55 and CC#1 in the Noyes and Bland census lists, Noyes photo # 21336. Our grade is AU58. The attribution and Naftzger-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; tied for finest BN of the variety. PCGS #37078. Estimate Value $4,000 - UP
