Lot 140

1835 N-2 R3 Small Date PCGS graded MS65 Brown, CAC Approved. Highly lustrous bluish steel brown and olive with 5-10% of the mint color remaining. The surfaces are satiny and this cent offers superior eye appeal. The only notable marks are two tiny, dull ticks on the chin. Otherwise this cent is a gem. E-MDS. The die crack on the reverse is obvious, the repunching inside the bottom of the 5 is sharp, and the repunching on UN is clear. The always-present die flaw that slants across the upper part of the cheek is bold. A truly superior example of a variety that seldom comes in high grade. Graded MS60 and tied for CC#2 in the Noyes census, his photo #21123. Bland says MS63 and tied for CC#1. Our grade is MS64. Removed from a PCGS slab graded MS65+BN, CAC Approved (PCGS label #37075.65+/30800031). The attribution and Naftzger-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 65+ for the variety (probably this coin). PCGS #37075. Estimate Value $7,500 - UP
