Lot 139

1835 N-1 R1 Large Date PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Frosty mint red fading to medium steel brown and light olive with about a third of the mint color remaining. This cent offers great eye appeal but a glass reveals some inconspicuous dull contact marks skipping from the chin to the hair bun. Otherwise the only notable defects are traces of an old fingerprint inside the wreath and a small spot of darker toning nestled between the top of the first T in STATES and the dentils. LDS with the final die crack reaching from the earlier crack between stars 11 & 12 to the dentils at the right. Graded MS62 and tied for CC#4 in the Noyes census, his photo #20710. Bland says MS65 and tied for CC#2. Our grade is MS62+. An attractive example of the Large 8 type and it comes with a nice provenance. The attribution and Naftzger-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 65+ for the variety. PCGS #37106. Estimate Value $4,000 - UP
