Lot 514

1851 N-5 R3 PCGS graded MS65 Brown, CAC Approved. Very attractive lustrous light olive and steel brown with subtle overtones of bluish steel and sea-green. Hints of underlying very faded mint color show on the reverse. This cent looks flawless in every respect to the unaided eye, but a strong glass reveals a few extremely faint hairlines at the dentil tips on either side of star 5. LDS, die state b, with a faint die crack from the coronet through star 5 to the dentils over star 4. Our grade is MS60+, tied for CC#10 honors in the Grellman census. The attribution and Tucker provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; tied for finest of the variety at both services. Estimate Value $600 - UP
Ex Ron Czwakiel, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 10/2000:1460-Chris McCawley 12/26/2008-Dr. Bruce Tucker Collection.
