Lot 48

1803 S-264 R4+ Large Date, Small Fraction PCGS graded VG8. Glossy medium steel brown and chocolate with darker olive brown toning in protected areas. The two-tone appearance accents the details and enhances the eye appeal. No notable roughness, verdigris, or marks, just honest wear. The best identifying mark is a small planchet flake at the dentil tips well above the bust tip. LDS, Breen state III, with a strongly raised retained cud at STA that obliterates the designs in that area. The Large Date is strong and the Small Fraction is weak but visible. A very nice lower grade example of this tough "Redbook" variety. Our grade is VG7. Noyes says VG8 net VG7 and tied for CC#17, his photo #26672. The attribution and Koshkarian provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 5 finer for the variety. Estimate Value $15,000 - UP
Ex C. Douglas Smith 8/21/1969-Jules Reiver, Heritage 1/24/200619597 (includes the Reiver collection envelope).
