Lot 153

1794 S-65 R1 PCGS graded AU53. Choice glossy chocolate and dark steel brown. This cent is beautiful, essentially flawless showing only light wear while offering outstanding eye appeal. The only notable marks, and it takes a good glass to see them, are two very light scratches in the field before the tip of the nose. M-LDS, Breen state VI early, showing numerous die cracks on both sides including a short one to the left from the bottom of the cap, but the lump on the crack under the second S in STATES has not formed. The second A in AMERICA is weakened by die failure in that area but everything else is nicely impressed. Struck slightly off center to K-1 with the reverse rotated about 15 degrees CW. Graded VF35 and tied for CC#16 in the Noyes census, his photo #37690. Our grade is VF35+ Choice, close to EF40. The attribution and Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS Secure label. Pop 2; 5 finer at PCGS for the variety, 4 in 55, 1 in 64. Estimate Value $5,000 - UP
Ex Jack Robinson 1990-Del Bland-Doug Bird-Spencer Peck 5/16/2014.
