Lot 196

1849 N-23 R3 EF45+. Very attractive lustrous light to medium chocolate brown and steel with small peeps of faded mint color on the reverse. Satiny mint luster covers the protected areas giving this cent the look of a higher grade. No spots or stains, but there are a few tiny contact marks on both sides. The notable ones are a very tiny rim nick under the 1 and a barely visible rim bruise over the first A in AMERICA. MDS, die state b. The obverse field is starting to show fine die rust around the date but there is no crumbling on the left top of star 8. Tied for CC#12 overall but CC#5 of those in the earlier (N-23) die state. Estimated Value $300-UP
