Lot 599

1804 Restrike MS63. Choice lustrous medium brown and light chocolate. No spots or stains, only a few inconspicuous marks including a few ticks around NT in CENT. LDS showing extensive die rust on both sides and strong die cracks on the obverse. The reverse is rotated 85 degrees CCW relative to the normal head-to-foot die orientation. A beautiful example of this popular "cent." These "restrikes" were struck outside the mint circa 1860 using legally obtained scrap dies, the obverse from a modified 1803 S-261 and the reverse from the 1820 N-12 variety. Listed on page 102 in the "Redbook."
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
Ex Tom Reynolds-the Norman Wolfe collection.
