1870 Pattern Half Dollar. Copper, plain edge. Judd-936, Pollock-1042, Rarity 7. PCGS graded Proof 65 Red & Brown. CAC Approved. PQ. Lots of mint red visible. The obverse has a full figure of Liberty seated on a rock, holding a shield draped with a ribbon inscribed LIBERTY in her right hand while her left holds a short laurel branch. A long pole supporting the cap of freedom rests against her arm. She is surrounded by 13 stars with the date 1870 placed below. The reverse design is that of the current issue half dollar. A rare and desirable pattern not only for its quality, but for the significant amount of residual red remaining! Pop 4; none finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 71182) .
