Collection of Skylab Pieces Including Sample of Fabric Parasol, Recovered Skylab 1 Fragment, SMEAT. Collection of Skylab ephemera including two sample pieces, one 4 x 3½" the other fingernail sized on laminate card, of the material used to fabricate the "parasol" or heat shield to protect Skylab from the Sun, a color photo of the fabric and a letter from Johnson Space Center confirming the authenticity complete with a Skylab commemorative medal made of flown material from the mission. From Skylab 1, encased in lucite is a 1 x 2", is a fragment from a piece of Skylab that crashed in Australia in 1979 with photo and information also encased in the display. On two COas handwriting and sample of mechanical pencil lead flown on Skylab. Finally a signed photo by the three men who participated in The Skylab Medical Experiment Altitude Test, or SMEAT, which was a 56-day simulation of an American Skylab space mission from July 26–September 19, 1972 at NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Texas. The astronauts in the test were Bob Crippen, Karol Bobko, and William Thornton, who simulated space experiments, housekeeping and leisure activities in a hypobaric chamber. Estimate Value $250 - 400
