Apollo 16 Flown Lunar Surface Flag with Excellent Provenance. American flag flown to the Lunar Surface. Originally consigned by a longtime NASA employee, William R. Whipkey who worked with many of the astronauts and crews and we are pleased to offer this piece once again after five years. This flag, flown on Apollo 16 was given to the consignor by the crew for his help and support. An accompanying handwritten and signed COA reads, "This American Flag (4 x 5 ½") was flown on Apollo 16 to the Lunar Surface aboard Lunar Module #11, "Orion". This flag was given to me by the crew upon their return has been in possession ever since." The flag is in excellent condition with a few creases with personally handwritten COA by the former NASA director on his personal stationery. This flag is unframed and unmounted giving flexibility and preference in how to present for display. Estimate Value $6,000 - UP
