Archive of Amazing Photos, Research Materials, Letters, and More by Published Writer and Historian of Rocketry. Dr. Mitchell R. Sharpe was closely identified with the national space program for more than 20 years and is the author of several books on space flight and rockets Including "The Rocket Team", "Basic Astronautics: An Introduction to Space Science and Engineering", and" Living in Space", biographies of Yuri Gargarin and Valentina Tereshkova and many more, frequently collaborating with Frederick Ira Ordway, an equally acclaimed writer of the history of rocketry and aeronautics. Offered is a giant archive (2 full file boxes) of files an enormous cache of letters, research findings, photos and the like from his personal collection the bulk having to do with the history of rocketry. While some of the material in this lot are photocopies, there is a fair amount of original coorespondence and carbons relating to events of WW II. An absolutely fascinating trove of information from the 1960s to 1990s, and the countless men and women who made it possible. The scores of photographs all in various sizes come from many different people/companies that were involved in rocket science from all over the world. The photos alone make this collection a treasure. Coupled with the many letters from the greatest scientific minds at the time, globally, the technical and historic information they contain is remarkable. Included are numerous memos and correspondence by and to Dr. Wernher von Braun (1912 -1977) a German then later American, aerospace engineer and space architect credited with inventing the V-2 rocket for Germany and the Saturn V for the United States and one of the leading figures in the development of rocket technology. Particularly nice is a two page handwritten and signed response regarding rocket development in German during WWII. These files and photo have been beautifully kept in over a dozen notebooks, plus many file folders each tabbed by subject. Must be seen to be fully appreciated, but know, this is an institution-worthy collection of a lifetime of rocket history and research. Author's collections including a 237 pp typed manuscript of "It is I, Seagull", the story of Valentina Tereshkova by Mitchell R. Sharpe with glued in corrections (this is the author's most well-known book) AND Chapters 1-3 of his book "Rendezvous at Reutte". Finally four books on rocketry, one in German
