Earhart, Amelia - Signed Cover Commemorating the First Amphibian Flight, 1929 (1897-1937?) American aviation pioneer and author; she set many records, including first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic. In 1937, she disappeared over the Pacific Ocean near Howland Island during an attempt to circumnavigate the globe. First Day Cover signed "Amelia Earhart" diagonally to the left of a cachet commemorating the "First Amphibian Flight, Air Mail Over Lake Erie…Cleveland-Detroit." The flight took place on May 14, 1929 and was co-piloted by Earhart. Cover is also signed by "Ralph R. DeVore, Pilot" who would be the regular pilot on that route, and by "J.O. Beard, mec." With Cleveland, Ohio May 15 1929 postmark and 5¢ stamp. A May 24 Chicago cancellation is on the verso. Accompanied by a 1932 invitation to a reception given by Chicago mayor James J.
