Egyptian Late Period (664-332 B.C.) Ptah-Seker-Osiris Figure. Polychrome gesso over wood carved mummiform figure of Ptah-Seker-Osiris, lord of the Memphite necropolis. The deity, positioned upright, wears the double plumed crown, complete with solar disk and ram's horns over tripartite wig with red sash worn like a diadem tied at the back over a simple depiction of the Djed pillar. The face has been expertly restored and the hieroglyphic text strengthened. The figure's chest is ornamented with an elaborate pectoral necklace of multicolored beads, at at his shoulders are profile busts of Horus in falcon form surmounted by the sun disk. A column of hieroglyphs stretches vertically from the base of the pectoral to the toes and another runs down the figure's back from the base of the wig to the base. The figure of the funerary god is fitted with a peg into an elongated rectangular base, which bears a third hieroglyphic panel, this one stretching horizontally around the exterior walls of the base.We note some chipping at the corners of the base, but otherwise in excellent condition. Height of figurine: 21½". Size of base: 13" x 3 ¾" x 2¼.
