Egyptian Late Period (664-332 B.C.) Cedar Wood Funerary Mask. Lifesize funerary mask relief carved of imported cedar wood and unpainted. Deeply carved eyebrows and oversized eyes with extended outer canthus, prominent nose with deeply carved nostrils, and small mouth with lips subtlely upturned at the corners. Five perforations -- two in the forehead, two on either side of the nose, and one below the right corner of the mouth -- perhaps designed to facilitate attachment of additional features, such as a decorative headdress or wig, beard, etc. A handsome souvenir of pharaonic Egypt's twilight. Mounted on an attractive lucite stand. Height: 9½". Width: 5½". Estimate Value $500 - 700
