Outstanding Biedermeier Box of Walnut and Burl ca. 1820-1830, Germany. Biedermeier was an influential German style of furniture design that evolved during the years 1815–1848 in Central Europe resulting in some of the most beautiful furnishings and accessories of the 19th Century. Throughout the period, emphasis was kept upon clean lines and minimal ornamentation consistent with Biedermeier's basis in utilitarian principles. Offered here is an exquisite example wood box from that period. Excellent craftsmanship of burl and walnut. Hinges and lock in very good shape and remarkably, original key present. Atop lid set flush is an oval shaped pastoral scene painted on paper and placed under glass. Glass may have at one point been replaced. Otherwise box is in very fine condition given its years.
