Marion Davies, 4 Vintage Orignal and Beautiful Signed Double Weight Portraits (1897-1961) Legendary figure in Hollywood and Californian history. Davies began as a model, a sensation on stage, became a Zeigfeld Follies Girl and ultimately got her start in films in 1916. Enter newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst who founded Cosmopolitan Pictures and Davies by virtue of mandated coverage in Hearst newspapers became one of the most publicized actresses for the time. All evidence indicates they had a child out of wedlock and was passed as a niece. Davies was a winning presence on screen but Hearst kept insisting she star in heavy dramas which were not her forte. Socially, no couple compared in California as Davies and Hearst when it came to entertaining at their historic estate, San Simeon. Their lavish entertaining was without equal but not without scandal, most especially the mysterious murder of acclaimed producer Thomas Ince. Add Orson Welles' landmark film CITIZEN KANE, clearly based on the couple, not until Taylor/Burton did a couple command so much attention. Offered are four vintage original, double weight signed portraits that capture Davies over 3 decades. Inscriptions and signatures executed in fountain pen ink. All four photos in very good condition with minor evidence of handling and minor creasing at outermost corners. Estimate Value $250 - 350

Realized $180
