Rare Civil War Era Matched Pair of Percussion Pistols in Original Black Leather Saddle Holsters. Fine, rare pair of Civil War period US military model 1842 percussion pistols with black leather saddle holsters made by "H. Aston" 8½" .54 caliber round steel barrel marked with "US J H (inspector's mark) and "P", 1851 date on the tang. Locks marked "H. ASTON MIDD TN CONN 1851 and US". Regulation brass furniture marked one pistol with "W" inspectors marks and the other "M". Stocks have two visible inspector's cartouche on the left side at the rear of the side plate. Both pistols are in solid condition with normal light scratches and dings from years of service. Better that average pair and in good working order. Holsters are 36" overall length with leather in good condition with minor losses and flaking and an added layer of "support leather" underneath to strengthen connecting strap. See Flaydermans Guide To Antique American Firearms by Norm Flayderman, 9th Edition., c. 2007, p.333-334. According to Flayderman pistols made between 1851-1852 are scarce, only 6000 produced.
