Lot 249

English Cased Pair of Brass Barrel Flintolock Pistols by Phillips, London ca. 1815. This type of set was prized by Sea Captains or for a ship's officer. The brass would fair much better in the salt air conditions as opposed the iron made guns. 10".56 cal. round brass smooth-bore barrels with BIRMINGHAM PROOFS and marked LONDON on the top of each breech; iron barrel tangs (engraved). Locks are maker engraved PHILLIPS. Both pistols are in their original flintlock configuration. Brass furniture. Stocks are solid with scratches and dings. One pistol stock has seen more service than the other (typical) with stress cracks and repairs on both sides of the barrel channel near the muzzle. A very nice pair of pistols with near 10" barrels (seldom encountered). Both pistols are in good mechanical working order. Note; Original period Georgian box with correct English green baize lining. Measures; 20 x 9 x 3". Accessories include: bullet mold, 23 lead balls, 3-way powder flask, loading/cleaning rod and turn screw. Estimate Value $8,000 - UP
