Edison, Thomas A. - Collection: Autograph Address Signed, Brochure Cover Signed, 7 First Day Covers, Postcard Photos, Etc (1847-1931) American inventor who held over 1,000 patents, among which were the phonograph (1877) and the incandescent electric lamp (1879), and who produced talking motion pictures in 1913. An autograph address signed "Edison" and a partial cover of a booklet, signed "Thos A Edison" are among the items contained in a notebook of Edison memorabilia.
The autograph address signed "Edison," is written on the inside cover of a program for Telegraph Operators Dinner in Honor of Thomas A. Edison, held in San Francisco on Oct. 19, 1915. Edison wrote in pencil: "Edison's address in 'Morse': I am delighted to meet old pioneers of the telegraph as well as the younger generation. Bogardus who for so many years collected from us has passed away and the new regime is on. My capacity for slinging conversation to an audience is zero so my lifelong friend, Samuel Insull, will help me out and do the act." The partial cover of "State Cooperation in the Enforcement of National Prohibition Laws" is signed "Thos A Edison" in pencil; a note in another hand at the top notes that it was signed on July 28, 1930 at Edison's home in Menlo Park. Other items in the notebook include: seven different First Day Covers honoring Edison. Estimate Value $1,500 - 2,500
