Liszt, Franz - Inscribed and Signed Transcription of Verdi's "Aida" (1811-1886) Hungarian composer and pianist. "Aida di G. Verdi / Danza Sacra e Duetto finale / Trascrizione di F. Liszt," (Stampato colle macchine celeri del R. Stabilimento Ricordi), 13½ x 10¼", 24 pages, inscribed and signed, "à Madame de Retz --(Tony Raab) / F Liszt" in the upper left corner of the first page. Also dedicated in print, "À Mme. Tony Raab," before the title on the cover. Protected by paper wrappers. Pages toned but intact.

Liszt wrote transcriptions for piano of a wide variety of music and played many of them himself. Antonia Raab was a Hungarian pianist who was a pupil of Franz Liszt; they performed together in 1881. In March 1883, Liszt composed a nocturne based on a poem by Raab: "Schlaflos! Frage und Antwort-- Nocturne nach einem Gedicht von A Raab" ["Sleepless! Question and Answer--Nocturne from the poem by A Raab"]. Raab married a member of Emperor Franz Josef's palace guard. Estimate Value $800 - 1,000
