Patton, George - Mama's Boy Writes a 1909 ALS From West Point About His Fiancée (1885-1945) American general and tank commander, known as "Old Blood and Guts"; considered one of the greatest military leaders in history. Autograph letter signed "George Patton" four months before graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, 3 pages, on two adjoining sheets, with "West Point, New York" engraved at top of first sheet, 5½ x 4", Feb. 9, 1909. To "Dear Mama," regarding Beatrice Banning Ayer, the childhood friend whom Patton would marry on May 26, 1910. "I just got the inclosed [sic] from B. and she asked you to excuse it as she wrote it on the way to the train. Of course don't tell other people but I know you won't. She got up at seven o'clock to see me….She was pretty nice to get up though as she had no watch and had to stay awake from two o'clock on to do it. It is rather hard to express in writing how much she loves me really it scares me to death. I guess I love her just as much only I am not part Banning so don't show it so much. I suppose you may as well write to Mrs. Ayer if you think it is proper of course I don't know who should write first. Your devoted son…." Fine condition. With COA. George and Beatrice would have three children: Beatrice Smith (1911), Ruth Ellen (1915), and George Patton IV (1923). Estimate Value $1,500 - 2,500

Realized $1,500
