Nimitz, Chester W. - Twice Signed Photo of the Japanese Surrender on the U.S.S. Misouri. 1885-1966) Fleet admiral of the U.S. Navy. He accepted the formal Japanese surrender on board the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945. Photo signed twice, one on the white area on the desk: "C.W. Nimitz / U.S. Representative" and inscribed and signed in the lower border: "To Lt. Comdr. Kenneth Messenger, USNR--with best wishes and great appreciation of your contribution to the war effort which made possible the above scene. C.W. Nimitz, Fleet Admiral, USN.," 11 x 14", no place, no date. Light toning; some creasing at lower right, one crease affecting a couple of letters of the inscription. Standing behind Nimitz are (from left to right): General of the Army Douglas MacArthur, Supreme Allied Commander; Admiral William F. Halsey, Commander, Third Fleet, and Rear Admiral Forrest Sherman, Deputy Chief of Staff to Admiral Nimitz. A historic photograph. Very good condition. Estimate Value $1,500 - 2,000
