Maceo Grajales, Antonio and Máximo Gómez y Báez--Document Signed by Two Cuban Generals in the War of Independence Against Spain. Antonio Maceo (1845-1896) was a mulatto general called the "Bronze Titan." He was second-in-command of the Cuban army of independence, under Máximo Gómez. Partly-printed document signed by Antonio Maceo ("A. Maceo") and by Máximo Gómez ("M. Gómez"), one page, in Spanish, 8½ x 11¾, "En Campaña [in the countryside]", August 26, 1895. Promoting Lt. Colonel Tomás Padró Griñan to Colonel in the 1st Corps of the Liberation Army of the East, for his services toward independence. Blind embossed stamp at top center and blue oval stamp at lower left; notary stamp on verso. Overall toning and some foxing. An unusual document signed by two important generals in Cuba's war of independence from Spain. Estimate Value $300 - 500
