Deke Slayton Handwritten "Conestoga" Launch Vehicle Notebook., This bound notebook (7 x 11½") has the first 15 pages filled with Slayton's notes relating to his Conestoga rocket's daily problems/status reports (January 1993-April 1993). One entry reads: "1/28/93, Bell Aerospace. They won Geosat with USN (US Navy). Picked Pegasus as launcher and are now nervous and so is Navy. Looking at Conestoga alternate job. Need 108 degree including from VAFB (Vandenberg Air Force Base). Told him we might match that with KCFF, but if not, no big deal to move to VAFB. Wants updated user's manual (??) and will send SOW for us to bid 1379 FGP polar…". An interesting book showing that Slayton was well into the thick of things even at that late date.
ALSO included is a small pocket "Advance Planner" for 1993/1994 with extensive notations for 1993 ending on Dec. 24th. AND a second 1993 pocket planner with some notations but also with a great handwritten phone listing of Astro and NASA phone numbers in pencil. Fascinating reading and a great trio.
