Lot 90

1827 N-8 R3 PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Lustrous steel brown and olive with underlying faded mint color covering about 10% of the planchet, mostly on the obverse. The reverse is a lighter shade of brown and tan mixed with subtle wisps of darker brown and olive. Sharply struck and very attractive in spite of a few minor contact marks. The best identifying marks are a dull, light scuff at the bottom of the neck, a couple faint ticks above the 18 that barely break the satiny frost, and a small rim nick over the F in OF. MDS. The die cracks on the obverse are clear and the fields show fine radial die flowlines. An important discovery rescued from eBay in 2011. Not evaluated by Bland or Noyes but at least tied for finest known honors in our opinion. Our grade is MS60. The attribution and Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 4 finer, 3 in 64, 1 in 66 for the variety. PCGS #36859. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
