Lot 71

1825 N-8 R3 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Beautiful lustrous steel brown and light chocolate with mint red remaining visible on at least 10% of both sides. The only notable mark is a small area of darker olive brown toning at the dentils right of star 10. Nicely struck E-MDS, before the fine die crack that connects the tip of the coronet to star 6. Graded MS62 and CC#2 of the confirmed examples in the Bland census. This is the Newcomb plate coin for the die variety (Plate IV in his reference on the cents of 1816-1857). Our grade is MS62. A great cent that cones with a great provenance. The attribution and Newcomb-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 1 finer in 66 for the variety. PCGS #36802. Estimate Value $4,000 - UP
