Lot 57

1822 N-3 R2 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Beautiful lustrous bluish steel and light olive brown with a delicate splash of reddish brown toning under star 7. A few peeps of faded mint color remain in protected places on the reverse. The surfaces are satiny and offer great eye appeal. Free of contact marks except for a few microscopic ticks on the cheek. Sharply struck E-MDS with smooth, slightly reflective fields on both sides. A die crack connects the bases of ERICA to the stem end and the small lump between the T & A in STATES is gone, but the dentils and segments of the obverse inner circle are sharp. Called MS63 and CC#1 in the Noyes and Bland census lists, Noyes photo #21205. Our grade is MS63 as well. And it comes with a very nice provenance. The attribution and Naftzger-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; tied for finest BN of the variety at both services. PCGS #36718. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
