Lot 46

1820 N-8 R3 Small Date PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Choice lustrous light olive and tan with faded mint red covering the protected areas. A beautiful, frosty cent. The only defects are a few very light contact marks in the field before the mouth and a barely visible rim bruise over the O in OF. MDS with microscopic radial die flowlines in the fields, and the inner circle at the dentils over stars 5-7 is dull but visible. Graded MS63 and tied for CC#1 with one other piece in the Noyes census, his photo #27478. Bland says MS63 and finest known of the confirmed examples in his census. Our grade is MS62+, close to MS63. A very important cent that comes with an excellent provenance. The attribution and Starr-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; finest of the variety. PCGS #36700.
