Lot 395

(1785) Bar Cent Breen-1145 W-8520 Rarity-4 PCGS graded AU53. Choice frosty medium brown. Smooth and nearly flawless with outstanding eye appeal. Just a light touch of rub on the highest points of the devices and a few trivial contact marks. The notable marks are a small pinprick left of the bottom serif of the S and a few smaller ones over the top of the A. Sharply and evenly struck slightly off center to K-4.5, as usual, affecting some dentils but none of the legends. The spike from the second bar is sharp, a feature that helps identify genuine examples of this rarity. A very nice example of this popular colonial issue that began circulating in New York circa 1785. Listed on page 76 in the "Redbook." PCGS population 8. Estimate Value $8,000 - UP

Realized $8,813
