Lot 38

1819 N-8 R1 PCGS graded MS64 Red. Lustrous bright original mint red fading to light steel brown with more than two-thirds of the mint color remaining, especially on the obverse. There are some very tiny specks of darker toning and microscopic contact marks scattered over both sides, but none is at all distracting from the great eye appeal offered by this cent. A speck of darker toning just below the right corner of the mouth can help identify this piece. Nicely struck EDS showing sharp dentils around both sides and a fine line connecting the bases of the A & T in STATES. Most likely from the Randall Hoard of mint state cents, but this is an outstanding one. Graded MS65 Choice and tied for finest known honors in the Noyes census, his photo #35151. Our grade is MS63+, very close to MS64. The attribution and Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; finest of 2 MS RD of the variety. PCGS #36651. Estimate Value $4,000 - UP
