1855 N-10 R1 Italic 55 PCGS graded MS65 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Slightly prooflike mint red mellowing to light steel brown on the devices with at least 75% of the mint red remaining visible on both sides. Had to be very close to a "RED" designation. Essentially flawless except for a few small spots of darker toning. The notable spots are a tiny one nestled under the forelock and a slightly larger one off the lower left point of star 11. EDS, die state a, with smooth, slightly reflective fields on both sides. The fine die polishing lines found on the proof strikes of this variety are visible, especially at TES OF. A truly impressive example of the Italic 55 variety of this year. Our grade is MS65, tied for CC#3 in the Grellman census. The attribution and Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; 2 finer, 1 in 65+, 1 in 66 for the variety. PCGS #406175. Estimate Value $1,000 - UP
Ex Stack's 11/2008:3118-Gene Heard Collection.
