Lot 371

1855 N-9 R1 Italic 55 with Knob-on-Ear PCGS graded MS64 Brown, CAC Approved. Glossy medium brown with 5-10% of the mint red remaining on the obverse, 20% on the reverse. Choice except for a thin arc of darker toning from the bust tip to the hair just below the ear to the bottom of the hair bun. Otherwise this cent is very attractive with satiny luster covering the fields. M-LDS, die state f. The knob break at the top of the ear is strong, and the branch under the Y is clearly raised above the surrounding area. A very nice example of this popular "Redbook" variety, and the advanced stage of the "Knob" break is a big plus. Our grade is MS62+. The attribution and Holmes-Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; 4 finer, 3 in 65, 1 in 66 for the variety. PCGS #403958. Estimate Value $1,000 - UP
