Lot 359

1846 N-12 R1 Tall Date PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown. Lustrous mint red fading to light olive and bluish steel brown with at least a third of the mint color showing on both sides. No defects other than a few small areas of slightly darker toning. The notable ones are a faint spot of darker olive in the field off the tip of the nose, one on the lower point of star 9, and another over the end of the wreath stem. Nicely struck E-MDS, die state b. The fine repunching off the left base of the 4 is gone but the die lines from the throat are sharp. A very attractive example of the popular Tall Date type. Our grade is MS63+, CC#6 in the Grellman census. The attribution and Grellman-Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; tied for finest RB graded of the variety at both services. PCGS #403887. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
