Lot 353

1843 N-16 R4 Mature Head, Large Letters PCGS graded MS64+ Brown, CAC Approved. Frosty light to medium steel brown with nearly 25% of the mellowed mint color remaining, mostly on the obverse. The best identifying marks are a tiny nick on the coronet over B and a very tiny rim nick above the O in OF, neither mark at all distracting. The obverse fields show several very tiny lint marks where specks of debris were stuck on the die. Sharply struck E-MDS, die state a (there is no state b). All the fine die lines and points are clear and the fields are satiny from microscopic die flowlines. A beautiful cent offering excellent eye appeal. Our grade is MS63, tied for finest known honors with two other examples in the Grellman census. And it comes with a nice provenance. The attribution and Holmes-Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 65 for the variety. PCGS #405949. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
