Lot 328

1834 N-2 R1 Small 8, Large Stars PCGS graded MS63 Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous olive and medium brown with medium steel brown toning on the reverse. There are traces of mint red showing on the obverse while 15% of the reverse shows mellowed mint color. This cent offers excellent eye appeal and it looks flawless to the unaided eye. However a glass reveals numerous microscopic specks of darker toning scattered over both sides, none visible without strong magnification. In addition there are two small, light nicks under the 8 in the date and a tiny scuff under the O in OF. LDS but not quite the latest state. The spikes up from the dentils below the date are gone but the small lump at the Y in LIBERTY has not formed. A clear double profile shows from the forehead down to the chin with additional doubling on IBERTY and on stars 11 & 12. Our grade is MS60+. The attribution and Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; 4 finer, 2 in 65, 2 in 66 for the variety. PCGS #37054. Estimate Value $800 - UP
Ex Chris McCawley-Gene Heard Collection.
