Lot 277

1804 S-266b R5 (as a die state) PCGS graded VF20. Mostly glossy dark olive brown and steel with lighter chocolate toning on the highpoints. Looks perfectly smooth to the unaided eye, but a glass reveals microscopic roughness in the fields and protected areas, although it is mostly hidden under the glossy toning. No verdigris and only a few minor contact marks. The notable ones are a light rim bruise opposite the nose and a thin diagonal nick off the end of the bust. Scarce M-LDS, Breen state III, with a cud break at RTY but without the cud at MERI. The reverse is rotated 25 degrees CCW relative to the normal head-to-foot die orientation. A decent example of this tough die state. Our grade is net F12. The attribution and Husak-Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS #36422. Estimate Value $5,000 - UP
Ex Walter Husak, Heritage 2/15/2008:2270-Gene Heard Collection.
