Lot 268

1802 S-228 R2 Error Fraction 1/000 PCGS graded VF25. Mostly glossy olive brown and steel mixed with lighter chocolate brown. Looks perfectly smooth to the unaided eye but a glass reveals traces of microscopic roughness on the reverse, mostly around the fraction and UNITED. No notable marks or verdigris, although a tiny horizontal nick over the left edge of the E in CENT may help identify this cent. E-MDS, Breen state II, with a fine die crack from the rim through the D in UNITED to the wreath below. The date and legends are strong and the Error Fraction feature (1/000) is obvious. Our grade is F15+. The attribution and Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3 in VF; 7 finer for the variety. PCGS #36341. Estimate Value $500 - UP
Ex R. V. Polito Auctions (Hountville, PA) 4/15/1995:212-John Dirnbauer 10/25/2011-Gene Heard Collection.
