Lot 244

1795 S-78 R1 Plain Edge PCGS graded XF45. Frosty steel brown and chocolate with lighter steel brown in protected areas on the obverse. A very attractive cent, lightly worn and essentially flawless except for a few tiny planchet chips on the obverse (as struck). The notable chips are one left of the date and another between the upper half of the cap and the dentils. Nicely struck E-MDS, Breen state II. There are fine die clashmarks on both sides and a very subtle bulge in the field before the portrait but the tiny lump on the neck at the throat has not formed. Our grade is VF30. The attribution and Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 7 finer for the variety. PCGS #35729. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
