Lot 20

1817 N-14 R1 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Frosty mint red mellowing to light steel brown on the highpoints with about 75% of the coin showing mint color. The only notable marks are a small spot of darker toning over the inner part of the hair bun and a speck of carbon over the left side of the O in ONE. MDS, the usual Randall Hoard die state for the variety. A common variety in mint state as a result of the hoard but quite rare with this much original mint red showing. The upper part of the hair bun is softly struck, which is normal for the variety. Noyes graded MS63, his photo #35156. Our grade is MS63+. Previously removed from a PCGS slab graded MS64RD (PCGS label #1596.64/3156376). The attribution and Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 65 for the variety. PCGS #36590. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP
