Lot 195

1839 N-14 R3 Booby Head PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Lustrous medium steel brown and light chocolate with a few peeps of mellowed mint color on the obverse and 5% of the reverse with mint red. This cent is frosty and choice except for a few stains. A puff of slightly darker brown toning connects stars 3 & 4, a smaller reddish chocolate stain shows right of the top of the T in CENT, and another even smaller one rests on top of the wreath ribbon below the N in CENT. MDS with fine die flowlines on both sides. The tiny bar at the dentils over the R in AMERICA is quite dull but remains visible. Extremely fine die preparation lines show on the cheek and these should not be confused with post-striking marks. Graded MS60 and tied for CC#5 in the Noyes census (no photo). Our grade is MS60 as well. Comes with an important provenance. The attribution and Pittman-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer, 1 in 66, 1 in 66+ for the variety. PCGS #37255. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
