Lot 190

1839 N-7 R2 Booby Head PCGS graded MS64+ Brown. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel with about 5% of the planchet showing faded mint color. Satiny mint luster covers the surfaces and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. The only notable marks are a few extremely tiny planchet chips in the field near stars 1-3, a few more just right of the date (all as struck, of course), a speck of fine carbon over the upper right point of star 7, and a faint hairline over IC in AMERICA. Otherwise this cent is choice. MDS. The die crack from star 4 to star 6 is clear and fine die clashmarks are visible on both sides. Portions of the reverse are slightly reflective thanks to a fresh die polishing. Graded MS63 Choice and tied for CC#4 in the Noyes census, his photo #31098. Bland says MS60+. Our grade is MS62. The attribution and Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 65 for the variety. PCGS #37243. Estimate Value $4,000 - UP
