Lot 177

1838 N-4 R2 PCGS graded MS65 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Beautiful lustrous mint red starting to fade to light steel brown on the devices, about 75% of both sides with original mint color remaining. The only notable marks, and they are barely visible, are a tiny speck of darker toning right of the bottom of star 6 and a speck of carbon well hidden in the leaves under the second T in STATES. Neither mark is distracting at all and the eye appeal of this cent is outstanding. E-MDS with a die crack from the dentils down just left of star 9 to the bun below where it fades out. The repunching at the top of the E in AMERICA is clear. Not seen by Noyes or Bland. Our grade is MS65. The attribution and Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; finest RB of the variety. PCGS #37190. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
Ex Fairfield Coins-Jim McGuigan 7/21/1998-Manuel Ahumada Collection.
