1837 N-15 R3 Plain Hair Cord, Medium Letters PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Glossy medium brown and light olive with faded mint red covering 10-15% of both sides. There are a couple faint wisps of slightly darker toning at stars 1-3, a speck of dark toning at the right foot of the N in ONE, and two thin diagonal nicks on the neck. MDS with two thick die cracks up from the top of the R in AMERICA to the dentils and a single crack from that C to the dentils above. A thin but clear rim cud break shows on the rim over star 8 to right star 9 with a weaker one from star 11 to star 12. Called MS60+ and CC#1 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS60 net AU55 and tied for CC#3, his photo #20974. Our grade is MS60+. A very nice example of this tough die variety. The attribution and Naftzger-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; tied for finest of the variety. PCGS #37171. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
