Lot 162

1837 N-6 R2 Plain Hair Cord, Medium Letters PCGS graded MS65 Red & Brown. Lustrous bright mint red mellowing to light steel brown on the devices with about 75% of the original mint color remaining. The only marks are a small spot of very fine carbon midway between stars 2 & 3 and a spot of darker steel toning (not carbon) between star 10 and the dentils to the right. Otherwise this cent is a gem and the eye appeal remains outstanding. M-LDS. Most of the earlier die lines around the two berries left of the C in CENT are gone but a few remain visible tucked between the lower berry and the leaf tip on the right. Graded MS63 and tied for CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #35169. Our grade is MS64. The attribution and Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; the only RB example of the variety graded at PCGS. PCGS #37160. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
