1837 N-4 R2 Plain Hair Cord, Medium Letters PCGS graded MS65 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Beautiful lustrous mint red mellowing to light bluish steel brown with more than a third of both sides retaining mint color. The best identifying marks are a barely visible tick on the rim under the right edge of the 8 in the date and a tiny spot of fine carbon at a dentil tip over the right side of the R in AMERICA. LDS with the always-present die crack at stars 3-8. In addition die wear has weakened the left top of the I in UNITED so that it is barely visible and a lump (actually a die clash mark) has formed under the lower lip. A beautiful cent. Graded MS65 and tied for finest known in the Noyes census, his photo #35657. Our grade is MS64. The attribution and Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label.
